Do You Worship a Counterfeit Christ?
The following chart compares the True Christ, the Christ of the Bible, to the many counterfeits that are promoted in the vast majority of churches in our day. The number of congregations faithfully worshiping the biblical Christ is exceedingly small, representing but a remnant, a chosen few that God has seen fit to keep faithful by His sovereign grace and mercy. Sadly, the vast majority of churches proclaim from their pulpits a christ that is pleasing only to the carnal flesh and corrupted will of men — and their hearers love to have it so. But for His own, the Lord will tear down their false refuges and turn them unto Him — the only True Refuge and Safe Haven.
|The True Christ||The Counterfeit Christ|
|A fully divine Saviour, co-equal with God the Father and God the Holy Spirit||The True Christ is Jehovah the Anointed Saviour. He is co-equal, co-eternal, and co-divine with God the Father and God the Holy Spirit, being the second member of the Triune Godhead (1 John 5:7; Isaiah 44:6; Matthew 3:16-17. 28:19; John 10:29-33; John 17:11, 21; Isaiah 48:16-17; Isaiah 61:1; Psalm 33:6; Acts 17:29; Romans 1:20; Colossians 2:9; Titus 2:13, John 8:58).This same Christ, the True, also (being incarnate) became fully man and remains fully man, while never ceasing to be fully God (John 1:1-3, 14; Philippians 2:6-8; 1 Timothy 3:16; Isaiah 7:14; Matthew 1:23; Luke 1:35; Isaiah 9:6; Romans 9:5; 1 John 3:2; 1 Timothy 2:5; 1 Corinthians 15:45-47).||A false christ is any Christ that is less than God (less than co-equal, co-eternal, and co-divine with God the Father and God the Holy Spirit). Such a christ cannot save, lacking the divinity necessary to be the God-Man mediator, and to endure the wrath that God the Father poured out upon the True Christ in His people’s stead. Likewise, any so-called christ that isn’t fully human, that is, fully man (while at the same time being fully God) is not a true christ. If the christ one worships is not part of a Triune Godhead (Holy Trinity), if his nature is in any way less than perfectly divine, then it is a counterfeit — a wretched lie.|
|A Saviour whose will and purpose can never be thwarted, but accomplishes all that He set out to do.||The True Christ is a sovereign Christ doing all of His will, and of the will of His Father, for it is but one, united will. His counsel will stand, He will do all of His pleasure, and perform all that He has purposed (Isaiah 46:10-11; Isaiah 43:13; Psalm 33:11; Psalm 135:6; Proverbs 19:21; Acts 4:27-28; Ephesians 1:3-5, 9-11; Hebrews 6:17). The salvation of His people, His elect, is guaranteed; for it rests on His sovereign grace, mercy, and will — and in no wise relies on, is initiated by, or is otherwise dependent upon the fallen and corrupted will of man (James 1:18; John 1:12-13; John 3:8; Romans 9:11-16, 17-24; Philippians 2:13; Titus 3:3-5; 1 Corinthians 1:26-29; Ephesians 2:4-5; ).||The counterfeit christ must rely on, wait upon, and operate in light of the fallen will of men. As a result, the supposed salvation of this false christ is neither stable nor sure. If the will of man can initiate this salvation and thwart this salvation, then it can also fall away from this salvation — making of no effect the will, purpose, and desire of the false godhead it represents. When it comes to the salvation of men, this false christ is utterly weak and helpless in the face of the almighty power of the fallen will of men. This false christ is impotent against the will of those whom the Bible pronounces to be spiritually dead by nature. Unless they take the first step towards him, this fraud is utterly helpless to take any steps towards them (at least not any steps that will truly initiate, actualize, guarantee, and seal their salvation).|
|A Saviour whose shed blood is effectual, cleansing, utterly able to justify and save all those for whom it was shed.||The blood of the True Christ was shed specifically for His elect (John 10:11, 15; John 15:13; Isaiah 53:8; Ephesians 5:25; Acts 20:28; Galatians 1:1-4; Matthew 1:21), a multitude that no man can count, but still a remnant compared to the entirety of mankind (Revelations 7:9, Zechariah 8:12; Matthew 20:16, 22:14; Luke 13:23-24). This blood is holy, sanctified, set apart to cleanse His own; it guarantees the salvation of all who were chosen in Him from before the foundation of the world (Matthew 26:28; Acts 20:28; Romans 5:9; Ephesians 1:1-7; Mark 14:24; Luke 22:20; Colossians 1:18-22; Hebrews 9:13-15; Hebrews 13:20-21; 1 Peter 1:1-5, 18-21; Revelation 1:5-6, 7:13-15).||A false christ is any christ whose blood is common (literally, unholy) and equally available to all men (Hebrews 10:29). Being supposedly shed for all, this blood is completely incapable of saving all. Moreover, this commonly shed blood does not guarantee the salvation of any, but only makes salvation “possible” for those who accept and/or make a decision for the false christ from whom it flows. This blood goes to waste for countless millions; being utterly ineffective and ineffectual unless man adds to it by the exercise of his fallen will to make it effectual. The Bible declares that the blood of True Christ actually and sovereignly purchases, cleanses, and redeems His people; the false christ declares ‘not so, it only does these things if men let it.”|
|An immutable, unchangeable, infinitely stable Rock of a Saviour, who loves His own eternally and hates His enemies eternally.||The True Christ changes not; He is the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow in all of His divine attributes, qualities, purposes, and Being (Malachi 3:6; Numbers 23:19; 1 Samuel 15:29; Hebrews 6:13-18; Hebrews 13:8).He loves those whom He loves with an eternal and everlasting love (Jeremiah 31:3; Romans 9:11-13; Psalm 103:17; 2 Thessalonians 2:13-16). Likewise, He hates whom He hates with an eternal and everlasting hatred (Romans 9:11-13; Psalm 5:4-6; Psalm 10:3; Psalm 11:5; Proverbs 6:16-19; Matthew 7:23).||A false christ is any christ that loves all of mankind, including those who will en
d up in hell, while they live on earth and then hates them come Judgment Day. Such a christ is not stable, immutable, and trustworthy. In fact, such a christ removes all of the hope and joy of salvation; for if he can love some at one moment and hate them in another; if it can love some on earth and hate them when they are in hell; then how can a heaven-bound saint have any confidence that once in heaven, this christ will not change his mind and hate them at some point. In addition, Psalm 5:5 declares that God “hatest all workers of iniquity;” the false christ says “not so, I love everyone – even those I send to hell.” The True Christ declares that before they were even born, before they did any good or evil, He continuously loves the elect and continuously hates the reprobate. The false christ counters ‘not so, for I love all men equally and hate no one, and though it may pain mean to send my loved ones to hell… I will do it and then, and only then, will I hate them thereafter.’
|A foreordained, covenant, proactive, and all-knowing, Saviour||The True Christ covenanted with the Father to save the people whom the Father gave Him and chose in Him before the foundation of the world (Ephesians 1:1-11; Romans 8:28-30; 2 Timothy 1:9-10; Ephesians 2:10; Titus 1:1-3).Therefore, He is the lamb slain from the foundation of the world (Revelation 13:8; 1 Peter 1:19-20), being foreordained to be a propitiation for His people before Adam ever fell, before the world ever was (1 Corinthians 2:7-10). There is no aspect of God’s plan of salvation that was not specifically willed and purposed by Him; nor is there any aspect of the history and/or salvation of men that was unforeseen by Him.||A false christ is one that is merely reactive, being a reaction to the unpurposed, and perhaps even unexpected, fall of man. Such a “christ” was not foreordained of the Father to save an elect people, but becomes a supposed “savior” for all of mankind only as a reaction to their fall (as one who needed to scramble to make amends for the unforeseen and unpurposed fall of man). This false christ knows nothing of an eternal covenant wherein God the Father chose a people in Christ; this false saviour only knows of needing to wait around hoping that people will choose him so that he can save them, if they let him. This false christ, in harmony with its false father, is the sovereign of nothing in salvation – man is; man becomes the sovereign who decides whether he will suffer God to save him. Some argue that God, as sovereign, sovereignly ‘gives up his sovereignty’ when it comes to the salvation of men. What nonsense! The true God remains sovereign over all things — he never cedes any aspect of it to man.|
|An omniscient, wise, and sovereign Saviour (creating men to suit His purpose)||The True Christ knows all things (John 16:30; John 21:17; 1 John 3:20), including all of those whom He would send to Hell (for He is the Judge who will send the reprobate there having created them for that purpose as we read in Proverbs 16:4) and all of those whom He knew He would save (Isaiah 43:1-7, 21). See also Revelations 4:11 and Romans 9:11-24, both of which declare that God has created all things, and all men, to suit His sovereign will, pleasure, purpose and glory.||A false christ is any christ that died for all mankind, paid for the sins of all mankind, stood in their place/stead as a substitute, tasted death for all of them, and suffered under the eternal wrath of God for all of them — including those whom he knew were either already in hell or would end up there. Such a false christ is a fool – no intelligent being would endure wrath to keep people from going to hell when they are already there or ordained to go there.|
|A seeking, finding, and saving Savior who actually accomplishes all that He sets out to do.||The True Christ actually both seeks and saves His people (Luke 19:10). Although there is none that seeketh after God by nature, no not one (Romans 3:11; Psalm 53:1-3; Psalm 14:1-3) and although He is sought of [them that] asked not [for Him]; and is found of [them that] sought Him not (Isaiah 65:1), His elect seek Him and thirst after Him only because He first sought them, found them, saved them, and did that work in their heart that makes them desire to run (hunger, thirst, and pant) after Him.||A false christ is any christ that seeks all men but cannot actually save any of them unless they first seek him, accept him, decide for him, choose him, or otherwise exercise their sin-enslaved will towards him. This false christ proves to be thoroughly incapable, of actually seeking and/or saving mankind (in that he came to seek and to save all that were lost, which to the false professors means that he came to seek and to save all of mankind, but proved to be an incompetent failure, being utterly unable to either find or save countless millions who will end up perishing in hell for all of eternity).|
|A sovereign, electing, Saviour; one who chose His own, not expecting the dead to choose Him first.||The True Christ, being in perfect and divine unity with The Father, chose out His people; before the world was — they did not first choose Him (John 15:16, 19; Psalm 65:4; Romans 9:11-16, 17-24; 2 Thessalonians 2:13; 1 Peter 2:9-10); nor did Christ expect them to do so, knowing that they are naturally unable (John 6:44; 65; 8:43; 12:37-40; Isaiah 44:18; Jeremiah 13:23; Romans 8:7-8), being dead in trespasses and sin (Ephesians 2:1-10; Colossians 2:13). The True Christ, having redeemed His chosen people by His blood, quickens them through His Holy Spirit — only then, by the Spirit’s direction, do they choose Him.||The false christ waits on the impossible to save men; he waits on spiritually dead sinners (all of mankind by nature) to choose Him. If that sinner does not first choose this christ (make a decision for him), this christ is impotent to choose and save the sinner. This counterfeit christ somehow expects men to exercise their fallen wills, the very wills that are completely sold out to sin, and enslaved to Satan, to turn to him even though the Bible declares that natural man is utterly incapable of doing anything good while in an unregenerate state. If the Bible makes it clear that men can do no good, and turning to God is clearly a good thing, then either the Bible is a lie (which can’t be) or this false christ is… and it surely is.|
|A Saviour who makes His people acceptable, needing not to be accepted of men.||The True Christ makes His people acceptable in Himself (Ephesians 1:6); He makes them willing in the day of His power (Psalm 110:3). He has purposed to save them, and only them, from eternity past in perfect accordance with His sovereign will (Ephesians 1:5,11). He gives them one heart (i.e. He makes them men and women after His own heart by giving them that new heart of flesh), and puts a new (Holy) Spirit within them so that they may be willing through His power, and able to walk in His statutes (Ezekiel 11:19-20; 36:22-32).||A false christ is any christ that must ultimately wait on man to accept him into their hearts before he can save them. This false christ is unable, or unwilling, to make anyone willing to seek Him (because that would rob them of their sacrosanct so-called free-will). This false christ has more love for their fallen will, than he has for their actual beings; as a result, it will not act sovereignly, and in their best interests (out of love), to save them. This counterfeit will neither save them from themselves, nor in spite of themselves; thus, the love of this false, free-will christ, is but worthless garbage (with dung having more value, for at least dung serves a useful purpose).|
|A victorious and triumphant Saviour; never failing, never losing any of His own.||The True Christ is victorious and triumphant; He saved all for whom He died, atoned for, propitiated for, and redeemed (Revelations 5:9; I John 4:10).All that the Father gave to Him shall come to Him and all of them will be saved; He shall lose none of them (John 6:37-39), for they are all kept by the power of God through a God-given faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time (1 Peter 1:5; Ephesians 2:8). God the Father seals them through the operation of God the Holy Spirit (2 Corinthians 1:21-22; Ephesians 1:13; Ephesians 4:30; John 14:16-17)||A false christ is a failure of a christ; it is any christ that died for all mankind, tasted death for all mankind, paid for all of the sins of all mankind, and yet only managed to save a comparatively small number of them. This false and impotent christ can only save those people who ‘let him’ save them. Moreover , those who allow themselves to be “saved” by this imaginary christ have no eternal hope, namely because (1) this christ is a fraud, it doesn’t exist, and (2) because even if it did exist, any person who is saved by the exercise of his own will can become unsaved by that self-same exercise. If becoming saved is dependent upon men, then staying saved his likewise dependent on them. What a woeful state to be in, having to worry about whether you are doing enough, working enough, abstaining enough to make and keep yourself right with God. This isn’t salvation at all, but merely deception in a religious guise.|
