“Trust Your Heart!” Is The Advice Of Fools….
Many encourage others to trust not God, nor the Bible, nor men, nor even their own mind, but to “trust their heart” — this is great deception, even strong delusion, and only sin, wrath, and eternal damnation result from such madness (unless God steps in and turns them from their error). By God’s mercy and grace, the wise will not put their trust in men, nor in anything intrinsic to man; they will say to such a thought “No! “God forbid: yea, let God be true, but every man a liar“” Romans 3:4. The goodness and effectual working of the Lord leads God’s people to trust in Him alone, trusting Him through His holy word (the Bible) alone, though never as perfectly as they long for and desire in this life. Nonetheless, God causes the prudent to forsake SELF as something to be trusted seeing that “The heart [is] deceitful above all [things], and desperately wicked: who can know it?” — Jeremiah 17:9.
In fact, God declares that “He that trusteth in his own heart is a fool: but whoso walketh wisely, he shall be delivered” [Proverbs 28:26] seeing that “…from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, 22 Thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness. All these evil things come from within, and defile the man….” [Mark 7:21-23] and again “…those things which proceed out of the mouth come forth from the heart; and they defile the man. For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies…” [Matthew 15:18-19].
Remember that “This [is] an evil among all [things] that are done under the sun, that [there is] one event unto all: yea, also the heart of the sons of men is full of evil, and madness [is] in their heart while they live, and after that [they go] to the dead.” — [Ecclesiastes 9:3]. It was Satan who deceived Eve into trusting her own feelings, her own lusts, even her own heart; thus, to trust your own foolish, sin-prone, self is to trust darkness, it is to believe the devil’s great lie that “thou shalt not surely die” when God so clearly declares that you will if you forsake His Way, His Truth, His spiritual law (which is His holy word) and follow your own. Finally, understand that subjectively (experimentally), for the true Christian, wisdom *must* come from God’s word, as applied to the new, quickened, born from above heart, by the Holy Spirit. Objectively, the Lord Jesus is our Wisdom seeing that, concerning the people of God, “But of [God] are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption: 31 That, according as it is written, He that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord” [1 Corinthians 1:30-31]. To God be the glory!
