The Lord’s Day – 06/23/2013
52 min | Malachi 1:2-3
Malachi 1:2-3 I have loved you, saith the LORD. Yet ye say, Wherein hast thou loved us? [Was] not Esau Jacob’s brother? saith the LORD: yet I loved Jacob, 3 And I hated Esau, and laid his mountains and his heritage waste for the dragons of the wilderness.
Comment: True Christians, when left to themselves for certain seasons throughout their lives, will depart from the Lord their God. The Lord will not allow them to utterly depart, for He will maintain them, but their hearts will often grow cold, despondent, contentious, legalistic, self-righteous, and so on. They begin to fret; murmuring and doubting comes forth and many a saint will begin to lose sight of God and the great love that He has for them. They begin to walk as one lost and blind; again, not utterly, but enough to cause great spiritual sorrow and discontentment. This is to be distinguished from the false professor who has a show of religion, an appearance of having a walk with the lord, but who knows nothing of a true love and longing for the Christ of the Bible. Brother Potts, in this message, covers both camps and reminds us that despite our proneness to wander, the Lord loves and maintains those that are His. Though we would forsake Him (were it not for His continual, effectual work in us) He will never leave nor forsake His own.
