God’s love and hatred…
I cannot quantify it now but I believe that there are significantly more verses pertaining to God’s love in the Bible than to God’s hatred. God is glorified in the Highest not in the damnation of the non-elect but in the salvation of the elect. Nonetheless, when His hatred is spoken of, we should take heed. Consider,
Psalm 5:5 The foolish shall not stand in thy sight: thou hatest all workers of iniquity.
Psalm 11:5 The LORD trieth the righteous: but the wicked and him that loveth violence his soul hateth.
The Hebrew verb sane’ [H8130; sä·nā’], translated as hatest, hateth, etc. literally means… “to hate.” It does not mean “to love less;” nor does it mean “to have non-salvific love for;” nor does it mean “to hate the sin but love the sinner.” This verb simply means… to hate.
Not only that, but in both of the verses above, sane’ is in the Qal Perfect form. Consider the following quote —
“the perfect of intransitive verbs is used where English uses the present; The perfect in Hebrew in such a case EMPHASISES a condition which has come into “COMPLETE EXISTENCE” and REALISATION”
— this means that sane’ does not mean “to hate in the future;” or “to hate come Judgment day;” or “to hate in the sense of God’s final purpose and ultimate end for the wicked;” or “to hate those in Hell;” it simply means to hate — even when it was spoken, even when it was read by any and all readers,” even from eternity “past,” and even to eternity “future.” To insist on the doctrine that God “loves” anyone outside of Christ is to insist on a lie. To insist that the Bible teaches anywhere that the love of God (in any sense) falls upon the wicked, the goats, the tares, etc. is to insist upon a lie. To promote it, even in the face of scriptural refutation and admonition, is to promote false doctrine… even, a lie. I do not want to emphasise the hatred of God to a greater degree than He emphasized it Himself. However, I also do not want to downplay or deny the doctrine either. Yet, this is precisely what people do when they insist, contrary to scripture, that God loves those whom He specifically states that He hates, abhors, despises, and eternally damns to Hell. Let God be true and every man a liar.
To God be the glory, knowing that He is love, and His love is an eternal love, shed specifically upon those whom He loved eternally, in the Beloved, even the Lord Jesus Christ.
